Your filter

Everything you need to know

01

Your MB Smart app

Your new filter is called MB Smart. There is a new app in your dock which allows you to access your filter portal. This app is just a Webclip. If you do not want the app, save the webpage it leads to and then delete it.

02

Single user only

With your new filter you can only have one user on your computer. If you need to have multiple users, there are alternative filters to be used.

03

Public WiFi

Most filters have issues accessing public WiFi in a hotel, airport, or airplane. With MB Smart for Mac, it should work, but you may have to restart your computer a few times when trying to connect. If you plan ahead, you can reach out to support to have them temporarily disable the filter for the time that you will need to log into the public Wi-Fi. If you will be in this scenario often — and can't use a hotspot — there are other filter options to try out.

04

Glitches can happen

While the filter is very advanced, glitches can happen. If there is an issue due to the filter, the problem can almost always be fixed remotely by changing settings causing the issue — just reach out to support. While reaching out, please be patient, bearing in mind that the inconvenience is a very small sacrifice for the great benefit of internet safety.

05

Keep a valid card on your account

It is very important to make sure the credit card on your account does not expire and is valid. If it cannot be charged at the billing date, you will receive an email and you will have a few days buffer and then your internet will be blocked (as a safety measure) until payment is made. You can always add a back-up card.

06

Real-time image filtering

Your Pro account allows for real-time filtering of explicit images across the web. This is only possible on the Chrome browser. If you open a new Chrome profile, all images on the web will be blocked by default. To fix this, open the MB Smart app while logged into the new profile and click "Register Extension." All images will be blocked in the Safari browser.

07

Downloading apps from the web

By default, downloading apps from the web (as opposed to the app store) will be restricted. That setting can be turned off. It is a lot safer to reach out to support before you would like to download an app from the web, and they will allow the download, and then turn the restriction back on right after.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

If I have the pin to my account and can request changes, what's the point?

If you have the PIN to your account, that means the filter is not very secure. It still creates a strong time barrier. One solution is to reach out to support and have them put a note on your account that says that specific changes cannot be made without getting confirmation from a certain email or number.

If I chose to block just explicit sites, will anything else be blocked?

By default, all pictures and videos will be blocked on certain sites and apps that have explicit content on them (as your filter can't see the media to determine what's good and what's bad — unless you have a Pro account). This includes Reddit, X, Discord, and Telegram. If this is too inconvenient and you need access to media on any of these, please reach out and we will make it work. For X, it is recommended to try out Threads.

If I get a new computer, will the filter transfer over?

The filter is on your physical device, it is not connected to iCloud. When you get a new device, the filter will need to be installed again. It is highly recommended to plan ahead before getting a new device to make sure you can have it filtered right away.

Will piracy streaming sites work with the filter?

They should, although they sometimes get blocked by mistake or the media doesn't load properly because they may use host/server sites that are unsafe. If you're having an issue with any of them, please send the site URL to 845-613-5656 to have it fixed.

What if I decide I don't want the filter anymore, what do I do?

You can reach out to support and the filter can be turned off and removed remotely.

Can I use a VPN with the filter?

No. The filter will not let you install a VPN onto the device.

Will any content in my social media apps be filtered? How about in my messages? What about the photos on my phone? How about in a movie I'm watching?

No, they will not be filtered. The filter cannot see specific content in your apps or on your phone, only on the browser.

How can I make my filter settings stricter or lighter?

Everything can be changed remotely by contacting support.

Some of my apps have content in them which I would like filtered. What can I do?

Most apps cannot be filtered within the app. The only options are to have all pictures and videos blocked within the app (or one of the two). Another option is to use the website only and block the app, and in that case it will be possible to filter images but not videos (you could then block all videos).

I can't add an extension onto Chrome.

The filter restricts adding or removing extensions. If you would like to do so, you can reach out to have your filter temporarily turned off while you do so.
